This beautifully detailed study of “St. Philip’s Cathedral, Birmingham, viewed from New Canon Passage” to give it its full title, has been one of my enduring favourite paintings because of the contrast between the modern exterior fittings on the back wall of the shopping centre and the historic stonework of this city centre church catching the light from the low sun.
The finished work was sold through a Sutton Coldfield art dealer for a healthy sum to a local man who was moving ‘down under’. From a financial point of view this was probably one of my most remunerative pieces of art.
